In 1999 Phil was a fledgling sales star at Gillman Honda in San Antonio, Texas. He proved to be an exemplar at simplifying processes and expediting results. He rapidly rose through the ranks, and became a Sales Manager and at last a General Manager at a General Motors franchise store.
He experienced the ins and outs of what it takes to make a dealership successful. He received the 2015 Mark of Excellence Dealer Award and made his Nissan store rank #14 in the nation, as well producing the highest gross profit in the store’s history.
It was when Carzuz happened that Phil decided to take off on his own. Originally thinking he would own a used car lot. However, in order to get inventory, he took the old school approach of going to the auto auctions. After calculating the auction fees, the thought occurred to buy cars directly from the public.
He then joined forces with another start-up. Together, they were able to formulate an agreement to build out a web-app to offer a retail customer an appraisal without ever having to speak with or meet a representative.
