Phil Kandera - President and Founder

In 1999 Phil was a fledgling sales star at Gillman Honda in San Antonio, Texas. He proved to be exemplary at simplifying processes and expediting results. He rapidly rose through the ranks, and became a Sales Manager and at last a General Manager at a General Motors franchise store.

He experienced the ins and outs of what it takes to make a dealership successful. He received the 2015 Mark of Excellence Dealer Award and made his Nissan store rank #14 in the nation, as well as producing the highest gross profit in the store’s history.

Phil decided to take off on his own. Originally, he thought he would own a used car lot. That is, until he discovered the ridiculous hoops required to obtain pre-owned inventory. After calculating the fees at the auto auctions, Phil conceived a software platform designed to purchase vehicles directly from individuals. Thus, Carzuz was born and has since evolved.

Massie Center - Product Executive

With passions and studies ranging from music to culinary arts to crossword puzzles, gardening to the psychologies behind the differing world philosophies, Massie brings a little bit of everything to the table. 

Born and raised in San Antonio, Massie attended MacArthur highschool and found that he was most successful working and collaborating with others. He has over 20 years of customer service and creative problem solving experience. 
Originally working with Phil Kandera at Gunn Nissan in 2012, the two reunited in July 2018 within the Carzuz group. Continuing to hone his skill set, Massie should prove to be at the forefront of Carzuz’s success.

It was when Carzuz happened that Phil decided to take off on his own. Originally thinking he would own a used car lot. However, in order to get inventory, he took the old school approach of going to the auto auctions. After calculating the auction fees, the thought occurred to buy cars directly from the public.

He then joined forces with another start-up. Together, they were able to formulate an agreement to build out a web-app to offer a retail customer an appraisal without ever having to speak with or meet a representative.
